Especially as a teenager, it’s all too easy to forget that your skin is actually the largest organ of your body.

That’s why having a skincare routine is important. Today, I delve into what a good skincare routine consists of (for adults and teens alike!), why having a skincare routine is important, and the resources Face 5 offers to ensure that you are making the best of yours.

What Does it Mean to Have a Skincare Routine?

Having a skincare routine means that you have a consistent, multi-step routine that involves washing and treating your skin both A.M and P.M.

While your skincare routine will differ depending on your skin type, skin history, and skin goals, the standard skincare routine will contain the following: cleansing; toning; moisturizing; exfoliating; and, in the A.M, applying sunscreen.

As such, having a consistent skincare routine yields:

  • Reduced breakouts
  • Mitigated fine lines and wrinkles
  • More hydrated skin
  • Higher self-confidence due to clearer, healthier skin

Without a skincare routine, dead skin cells will build up, oiliness will run unchecked, and your skin will be unprotected from the sun… making it vulnerable to free radical damage, UV-related pigmentation, and skin cancer

A consistent skincare routine also works to banish common misconceptions about acne that are likely worsening your skin. A great example of this is exfoliating: some people with acne may avoid exfoliating due to fearing that it will irritate the skin and cause further breakouts. However, the opposite is true: because acneic skin sheds dead skin cells much faster than normal skin types, the pores are not able to release the build up as easily, which causes skin eruptions. Exfoliation helps to speed up cell turnover and removes the sebum (glue-like substance) that gets trapped in the pores.  Using appropriate exfoliating serum daily helps the pores stop sebum buildup.

How Face 5 Can Help With Establishing (and Maintaining!) a Skincare Routine

Whether it be a lack of time, a lack of product knowledge, not having a trusted skin expert to guide you through the proper solutions, or simply not knowing which skin concerns to target first, there are many hurdles standing between people and their first skincare routine. This is particularly true for busy teenagers.

Here at Face 5, I recommend the following alternatives for getting started with a consistent skincare routine:

Our #1 best resource for skincare routines, however? Our comprehensive Home Care Routine Assessment form, which is fully available online for clients. With your home care adjustment recommendation, you will also receive a coupon for “10% off” on your next product purchase over $100.

Upon completion of this assessment form, it is recommended that you continue to use prescribed Face 5 products as long as your Acne Specialist instructs you to. To keep skin in optimal health, it is advised that you come in every 6 – 8 weeks to get your pores deeply cleaned: just like how going in for dental cleanings is important, so are facial cleanings! During these cleanings, your Acne Specialist will inform you on how to best adjust your home care routine as your skin changes or adjusts to certain ingredients in your skincare routine.
