What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that uses fine needles to create micro-injuries on the skin’s surface. These tiny injuries stimulate the body’s natural wound healing processes, including the production of collagen and elastin, which are essential for healthy, youthful skin. Despite how it sounds, microneedling is not painful; we apply a numbing cream to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. Over time, this treatment helps to fade scars and improve the overall appearance of your skin.
Benefits of Microneedling
Many seek out microneedling to help reduce acne scars but the benefits are far beyond!
- Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
- Less hyperpigmentation (from acne)
- Remove the appearance of acne scars
- Lifts the skin for a more youthful look
- Reduction of pore size
- Increase the effectivness of other topical products
Why Choose Microneedling?
Microneedling offers numerous advantages over other acne scar treatments, such as at-home skincare products and laser treatments. Unlike laser treatments, microneedling is effective on all skin types, including darker skin tones and is safer and cost effective. One of the reasons for this is microneedling poses no risk of allergic reactions, making it a more comfortable option for almost everyone.
Moreover, microneedling can help preserve the youthful appearance of your skin. When combined with our collagen induction therapy, this treatment can fully rejuvenate your skin, offering an effective anti-aging solution. Lastly, in alignment with all our acne services, we’re proud to offer our microneedling service to promotes the body’s natural healing processes without the need for harsh chemicals or intense laser heat.
Microneedling vs. Laser Treatments
Both microneedling and laser treatments are popular choices for acne scar removal, but they work in different ways and offer distinct benefits.
Laser Treatments:
- Mechanism: Laser treatments use focused light to remove the outer layer of the skin (ablative lasers) or to stimulate collagen production without removing skin (non-ablative lasers).
- Skin Types: Some lasers can be less effective or riskier for darker skin tones due to the potential for hyperpigmentation.
- Downtime: Laser treatments often require more downtime compared to microneedling, with redness and sensitivity lasting several days to weeks.
- Cost: Generally, laser treatments tend to be more expensive than microneedling.
Microneedling:
- Mechanism: Microneedling uses fine needles to create micro-injuries, stimulating the skin’s natural healing process and collagen production.
- Skin Types: Safe and effective for all skin types, including darker tones, without the risk of hyperpigmentation.
- Downtime: Minimal downtime; most clients experience redness for only 24-48 hours.
- Cost: Typically more affordable than laser treatments, making it accessible for more people.
Highly Trusted
My situation with acne had tapered off with acne scars and occasional zits being the worst of it when I saw Yuki - I had dark blemishes on the face, but I didn't know how to keep new breakouts or blackouts under control, even as I trial and errored through several different types and brands of skincare products by myself, tried Retinol, etc.
However, I no longer struggle with that problem anymore, and I feel a lot more confident about the appearance of my face after having seen Yuki and her staff for regular appointments. My skin is a lot clearer, smoother, hydrated, and brighter looking than it used to be, and the vast majority of my acne scarring and skin deadness has vanished thanks to Yuki's help.
Yuki will first analyze the skin type you have, so she can provide the best fit of skincare products for you, it's not a one-size-fits-all procedure, as everyone's skin is different, she will personalize it for you. I had highly sensitive and dry combination skin, and was accommodated and advised for that.
She is very knowledgeable and provides a lot of lifestyle information that can contribute to acne, and advice on what to do, to reduce the chance of acne coming back on the face - everything from detailed diet breakdown, stress, hormones, chemicals to avoid in shampoos and body washes, shaving properly (I switched from a five blade to single blade razor, which makes a world of difference, I get a cleaner shave out of it and now I will never go back to those razors.) after being advised on what to do with my skin, and how to better take care of it. I was impressed with how heavily researched and detailed the chemicals and regimen were, and I saw meaningful and effective results when I stuck to her recommended daily skincare routine tightly.
I saw Fiona at first, since Yuki was fully booked at the time, but later had sessions with Yuki. Yuki herself is kind and easy to talk to, and very helpful with advice. Cadee is also a courteous, welcoming, and kind receptionist. The facials are also quite soothing, and I like the tidy office space. I highly recommend others give Face 5 a try if you are struggling with acne.
FAQ
Micro-needling Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does micro-needling help with getting rid of acne scars?
A: Yes, the microneedling process promotes the growth of new collagen in your skin, encouraging your skin to heal itself. This reduces the appearance of all types of acne scars, including ice pick, boxcar, and rolling scars.
Q: Am I a good candidate for microneedling?
A: Microneedling is considered safe for most skin types and conditions. However, we do not recommend microneedling for clients with active acne breakouts. If you are still experiencing breakouts, we suggest starting with our Acne Solution Program to get your acne under control. Our acne specialists can help you determine if microneedling is the right treatment for you.
Q: How long does the treatment take?
A: The treatment process begins with numbing the skin, which takes about 30 minutes. The microneedling procedure itself takes approximately 45-60 minutes. Most clients experience redness for 24-48 hours or less. It is important to avoid sun exposure and refrain from using normal skincare products or makeup for 48 hours following the treatment. We will provide you with an After Treatment Serum to use during this period.
Q: When should I expect results?
A: We recommend 3-6 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, for the best results. While microneedling triggers your body’s wound healing processes immediately, the most dramatic results will typically be visible 4-6 weeks after the treatment. Results may vary based on scar type, skin type, and the age of the scar tissue.
